Effects of Rice Substitution in the Rice Intervention in Chronic Health (RICH) Study
About the Study
The aim of this study is to investigate the short-term effects of rice consumption on cardio-metabolic and physiological risk factors in Malaysians. This research is necessary because Malaysians consume rice as part of habitual diet. As a source of carbohydrate, rice is very critical to blood glucose control. A total of 200 subjects will be participating in this study in Malaysia. The whole study will last about 6 months and your participation will be about 6 months as well.
Are you eligible?

Attend outpatient clinics/Living in Klang Valley


Aged 18-60
years old

Regularly consume rice
However, you are not eligible if you are:

On insulin

A chronic alcohol drinker

On oral corticosteroids

Pregnant or planning to be pregnant

What will the study involve?

Free rice consumption for 6 months

Body measurements

Blood tests

Diet interviews
All measurements and interviews will be
carried out at 3 separate sessions.

Answer all questions honestly and completely

Inform the doctor if there are any health changes during the study

Inform about medication intake

Honorarium

Financial incentives will be given to eligible participants who successfully complete the study
Follow the doctor's instructions and advice
Consume the rice according to the quantity recommended
